Truly excellent patient care is the result of both the individual surgeon and the facility at which the surgery is performed. The Bariatric Surgery Center Of Excellence (BSCOE) designation is therefore awarded in tandem to both the surgeon and facility, which enables patients, payors, quality organizations and others to distinguish specific providers who have met the requirements for delivering high quality perioperative and long-term follow-up care from those who have not.
The surgical practice is also involved because this is where pre- and postoperative care most frequently occurs. Together, the integrated efforts and resources of the surgeons, facility and practice provide lasting health benefits for bariatric surgery patients. These three linked entities create the “center” that ultimately enables the surgeon and facility to receive the “center of excellence” designation.
